GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala - The 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship heads into its final four with a pair of semifinals on Saturday at the Domo Polideportivo de la CDAG in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Three-time CFC champions Costa Rica and Panama will kick things off, as the Ticos will look to keep their goal-scoring ways intact.
Winners of the last two CFCs, Costa Rica poured in 12 goals in their quarterfinal victory over Suriname in which both Emmanuel Gamboa and Pablo Rodriguez scored hat tricks.
The Ticos’ defense has also been stout during the tournament with just two goals allowed in three matches.
Panama have also displayed their goal-scoring prowess in the tournament with 16 goals scored in the group stage, led by Carlos Perez’s six goals. The Canaleros also proved that they are defensively solid in holding a dangerous Canada side to just one goal in their quarterfinal.
The second semifinal will see two-time CFC champions United States take on 2008 CFC winners Guatemala in a battle of past champions.
The U.S. defense delivered a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over the Dominican Republic in the quarterfinals, while Guatemala’s ability to rally from a late two-goal deficit eventually led to a penalty shootout win over El Salvador.
The contest between two evenly matches teams should make for a tight encounter.
