MIAMI, Florida – New destinations are necessary to keep growing and developing as an athlete, more so when it comes to the highest level of women’s football. Mexico DF Jimena Lopez knows this and that’s why she is not afraid to take on new challenges, as she moves to Spain to continue her professional journey, this time on loan at Valencia C.F.
This loan comes from the re-signing of the 24-year-old with the NWSL’s OL Reign, the club that drafted her in 2021. This, alongside her potential and youth, keeps her within the OL Reign setup while also giving her ways to help grow.
At the beginning of the year, Lopez flew to her second European adventure, this time to Icelandic side UMF Selfoss of the BestaDeild Kvenna, the top division for women’s football in Iceland.
She showed her talent throughout the season, starting nine times for UMF Selfoss, proving her different talents by scoring a goal. With a very different style of play, Lopez made herself a great asset, leaving everything on the Icelandic field.
Another reason why OL Reign decided to re-sign Lopez was the fact that she has been a key player for the Mexican Women’s National Team. She was one of the selected players to defend the ‘Tri’ jersey back in 2022 at the Concacaf W Championship.
Now, she becomes the latest player that Valencia C.F. adds to their ranks. One of the most popular teams in Spain, they are looking to go up the table in the Liga F and fight to put their football at the highest level.
This is the second time Lopez will defend the colors of a Spanish team, as she made her professional debut at SD Eibar, where she was a key player.
Lopez will demonstrate once again why she is an important player on and off the pitch in the upcoming season, embracing this new European adventure with courage, while being ready to fight for every ball every time she puts on the Valencia C.F. jersey.
