MIAMI, Florida – The international break is over, and the women’s leagues are back in action. Players that were called up for their National Teams returned home to their clubs in Mexico and Costa Rica, ready to get back to the fight to reach the top of the table.
It took no time for the teams of La Liga MX Femenil to hit the ground running again, giving fans the show, they have been waiting to watch for the last couple of weeks.
On Friday afternoon Queretaro welcomed in Club Leon in one of the first matches of week 7, in which the clash of these two teams ended in a 2-2 draw. The visitors scored first thanks to the precision of Daniela Calderon, who in the 19’ scored a free kick, sending the ball over the defense wall. In the 54’, the Gallos evened things with a header from Jazmin Enrique.
In the last minutes of the game things intensified again when, in the 81’, Calderon scored her second goal for La Fiera, shooting in the area after recovering the ball. But Queretaro was not done and in the 89’ Fabiola Santamaria went past the GK and defensive line, scoring the second and final Club Leon goal of the evening.
Another draw happened on Friday evening when Club Tijuana and FC Juarez closed the night with one goal each, 1-1. The emotions were high and in the second half in the 54’ Monica Alvarado received a pass from outside the area and scored her first goal as a Tijuana player. However, a late penalty was called for Las Bravas, in the 94’, and the always ready Miah Zuazua took the ball and sent it to the back of the net, leaving both teams with a point.
The excitement ran until the last match of the week, with Pachuca downing current champions Tigres, 2-1. Las Tuzas struck early in the match with a goal from outside the area by Spain international Jenni Hermoso. In the 32’, the great Charlyn Corral of Pachuca showed up and scored the second one for her team, after controlling the ball from midfield and firing in from inside the area. Tigres showed resilience and pulled one back thanks to Nancy Antonio, who received the ball in the area after a free kick. This is the first time Tigres has lost two matches in a row.
