MIAMI, Florida – The 2022-23 European season has been a successful one for women’s players from the Concacaf region.

In the Women’s Super League of England, after a hard-fought battle until the very last match, Chelsea FC came out victorious, earning their fourth consecutive title after winning their last game of the season against Reading FC.

But this is not the only trophy the Blues added to their collection, as they also were crowned FA Cup Winners at the beginning of the month. Canadian super duo MF Jessie Fleming and DF Kadeisha Buchanan were an important part of this success, the defender coming back to play after being injured, immediately having a positive impact for her team.

Other players that have new trophies to add to their collection are United States midfielders Catarina Macario and Lindsey Horan, as well as Canadian DF Vanessa Gilles. The current champions of Europe, Olympique Lyonnais, won two more trophies by becoming the winners of the Coupe de France after downing direct rivals Paris Saint-Germain.

They also celebrated another league title after defeating Stade de Reims 7-1 in their last game of the season. The only goal that was scored by the visitors came from the boots of France’s Revelation of the Year Haiti sensation and son-to-be Lyon player, Melchie Dumornay.

Earlier this month, Gilles announced she had extended her loan at Lyon from Angel City FC to try to keep writing history with the French giants, signing a new contract until 2024.

More titles were celebrated in other European leagues, as the Scottish Women’s Premier League crowned their champions of the season: Glasgow FC. One of the players that was key to success in this campaign was Costa Rica international Priscila Chinchilla, who has been part of the Scottish side since 2021.

Chinchilla had a stellar season with her team, ending the season with the fourth-most assists with 11. She also made a difference on the scoresheet, reaching 14 goals.

Portugal also saw a Concacaf player celebrate new titles. Sport Lisboa e Benfica can now call themselves three-time champions of the Liga BPI in which Canadian FW Cloe Lacasse was an essential part of this effort. Lacasse also got to celebrate a personal milestone, as she reached 100 games wearing the iconic red Portuguese jersey.
