MIAMI, Florida – Brandon De Leon scored a goal and had an assist to help power Santa Lucia of Guatemala to a 3-0 victory over Metropolitan of Puerto Rico in the first leg of the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf League Preliminary Round on Tuesday at the Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
It marks the first ever victory for Santa Lucia in international competition and gives them a comfortable advantage heading into the second leg later this month.
The first goal of the 2021 SCL would be scored from Juan Osorio in the 15’ with a thumping header that struck the bottom side of the crossbar and caromed into goal for a 1-0 Santa Lucia lead.

It was also the first ever goal for Santa Lucia in Concacaf play.
Santa Lucia continued to press for another score and they grabbed a 2-0 lead right before halftime with a fine finish from De Leon in the 45’.

Isaac Acuna then stretched the lead to 3-0 in the 62’ when Metropolitan failed to clear and a whipped in cross from De Leon was met by Acuna’s diving header.

With a three-goal lead, the Santa Lucia defense took over from there to seal the win and put the team in a good position to advance to the next stage.
