KINGSTON, Jamaica– The 2020 Flow Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship started off with a 0-0 draw between Jamaica’s Waterhouse FC and Dominican Republic’s Cibao FC in Group A on Wednesday night.

For Waterhouse DF Keithy Simpson, it was a hard-fought affair from start to finish.

“It was a very competitive game. Both teams were going at it, both teams had chances. I think in a good game of football when you don’t score, it is going to end up in a draw and that’s how it came out,” said Simpson in an exclusive interview with Concacaf.com.

“I think for the majority of the first half we were in control of possession, but when we got our looks at goal, we did not take our chances. The second half was more even and they got a good look at goal. Our goalkeeper made a good save and we had good team resilience,” added Simpson.

Waterhouse Head Coach Marcel Gayle also credited GK Akeem Chambers for his performance. Chambers, who starred for the club during the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League, made a big save in stoppage time to help secure the draw.

“It was a good game, we could have lost in the final minute so kudos to our goalkeeper Akeem Chambers, but nevertheless now we move forward,” said Gayle to Concacaf.com. “We have to go out there and play from minute one to minute 90. I think we did that today, unfortunately we didn’t get a score, but we are grateful to not have conceded a goal.”

Up next for Waterhouse will be a pivotal clash on Sunday with Haiti’s Don Bosco in which a victory will be imperative for the hosts.

“It’s a must-win game if we want to advance, so with the coach’s instruction, we have to go out and perform to the best of our abilities and hopefully come away with a win,” said Simpson.
