MIAMI, Florida – Reigning Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship winners Mexico will begin the quest for a second straight CBSC title in Group A at the 2021 CBSC in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
The competition kicks off on Monday, May 17 and will continue until Sunday, May 23, with El Tricolor in pursuit of a fifth CBSC crown.
For Mexico, the expectation is always to be in the running for top spot. In every edition of the CBSC dating back to the inaugural tournament in 2006, Mexico have achieved a top-four finish and 2021 should be no different.
El Tricolor will take on a pair of challengers in the group, beginning with Panama. The Canaleros also know what it takes to lift the trophy, achieving that feat in 2017 when they defeated Mexico in the Final.
Panama would like nothing better than to set the tone of this year’s tournament and claim a victory over Mexico in the group stage.
Also in the mix in Group A is a Belize side that will be making their fourth appearance in the CBSC.
Beach Soccer continues to grow in the country and after appearing in the last three editions, Belize will be seeking a first ever knockout round appearance.
The 2021 CBSC will begin with a group stage, followed by a knockout stage. After round-robin play, the top two finishers in each group and the two best third place teams will advance to the knockout stage. The two teams that reach the Final will qualify for the 2021 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
