OTTAWA - The Canadian Soccer Association on Thursday appointed Colin Miller as the interim head coach of the men's national team for a May 28 friendly against visiting Costa Rica at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.
Miller, 48, has previously acted in the same position in 2003/2004 and took charge of the team during a January 2013 camp in the United States. During that most recent stint, Canada lost to Denmark 4-0 and played the U.S. to a 0-0 draw.
"I'm the proudest man in Canada, once again," said Miller. "We will be hoping to build on the positive way we finished our last camp together with a result away to USA, and also looking to build on the good work that Tony Fonseca did with the team during the recent camp in Qatar."
Miller is also looking forward to leading Canada out in Edmonton, his new hometown, where he is currently head coach of North American Soccer League side FC Edmonton.
"It's an exciting game for me as it's in my home city," commented Miller, who enjoyed a long international career with Canada as a player, acquiring 61 caps over a 15-year period. "During my playing years fans in Edmonton offered tremendous support to the Canada team and we hope they will be out in full force to turn it into 'Fortress Commonwealth' on match day."
The camp in Edmonton is part of Canada's continued preparations for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which will take place in the United States, July 7-28.
