MANAGUA, Nicaragua – The next several weeks could be ones that go down in history for Nicaraguan club CD Walter Ferretti.

The Pinolero side is seeking to become the first Nicaraguan club to ever advance past two rounds in a CONCACAF tournament when they take on Panamanian side Tauro in the 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF League quarterfinals.

Walter Ferretti has already made some history in the 2018 SCL, as they became the first Nicaraguan club to advance from a round in a CONCACAF tournament in consecutive seasons after topping Martinique’s Club Franciscain 4-1 in penalties following a 1-1 draw on aggregate.

One year ago, Walter Ferretti defeated Belize’s Belmopan Bandits 5-1 in the Round of 16 before falling valiantly in its bid to reach the 2017 SCL semifinals in 2-1 defeat to Plaza Amador of Panama.

Now, another Panamanian opponent awaits in Tauro, who reached the 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals and overcame a tough Real Espana side 2-1 on aggregate in the 2018 SCL Round of 16.

Walter Ferretti Head Coach Henry Urbina knows that improvement must be made by his team in all phases prior to squaring off against the Canaleros.

“We need to improve details for this round in our attacking depth,” said Urbina in a press conference last week. “We lack a player in the area that can give us power on offense. We also need to improve the delivery of the ball because we erred on a lot of passes, but with more work we will fine tune those details,” added Urbina.

Walter Ferretti will travel to Panama for the first leg on August 23 prior to playing the second leg on August 30 at the Estadio Eladio Rosabal Cordero in Heredia, Costa Rica.
