MIAMI, Florida – On Monday, September 21, Concacaf will conduct the Draw for the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf League, which will be the fourth edition of the tournament for clubs in the Central American and Caribbean regions.

A total of 22 teams will be competing in the 2020 SCL, with 16 of those clubs boasting players who have the distinction of being their respective club’s all-time leading scorer in the SCL.


Johan Venegas (7, Deportivo Saprissa) – Venegas is the SCL goal-scoring king, with seven goals to rank first in the all-time SCL scoring table. Venegas scored all seven of those goals during the 2019 edition when he took home the Golden Boot Award and helped lead Saprissa to the title.

Juan Pablo Montes, Rubilio Castillo (5, FC Motagua) – The Honduran club has appeared in a record 16 SCL matches and twice finished as runners-up, in 2018 and 2019. Montes and Castillo played a big part in those runs and share SCL scoring honors at Motagua with five goals each. Castillo won the Golden Boot in the 2018 SCL with five goals, while Montes scored three goals in the 2018 SCL and two goals in the 2019 edition.

Yendrick Ruiz (5, CS Herediano) – Ruiz ranks among the top scorers in SCL history with five goals to his name in the tournament. Ruiz scored all five goals and took home Golden Ball honors as Herediano won the 2018 SCL.

Roger Rojas (5, CD Olimpia) – Rojas claimed the Golden Boot in the inaugural SCL in 2017 with five goals, leading Olimpia to the first SCL title. Three of Rojas’s five goals came in the 8-2 aggregate win over Panama’s Plaza Amador in the semifinals.

Raul Penaranda (4, Alianza FC) – Penaranda was a big reason why Alianza reached the semifinals of the 2019 SCL as he scored a goal in each round to finish the tournament with four goals.

David Choiniere (2, Forge FC) – In the first appearance from a Canadian club in the SCL, Choiniere scored a goal in the Preliminary Round and Round of 16 for Forge FC in the 2019 SCL.

Jose Fajardo (2, CA Independiente) – Fajardo’s two goals for Panamanian outfit Independiente came in the club’s 3-2 aggregate win over Robinhood of Suriname in the 2019 SCL Round of 16.

Guillermo Stradella, Victor Montano, Jorge Moran (1, CD FAS) – Stradella, Montabo and Moran each scored one goal during CD FAS’s lone SCL campaign in 2018.

Gerardo Gordillo (2, Comunicaciones FC) – The Guatemalan club have just one appearance in the SCL in 2019 and Gordillo came up big with a goal in the Preliminary Round and the Round of 16 for a career total of two SCL goals.

Edgar Pacheco (1, Antigua GFC) – The Guatemalan club have just one goal in their SCL history and it came from Pacheco, who scored in the first leg of Antigua GFC’s 2019 SCL Preliminary Round series with Forge FC of Canada.

Pablo Gallego, Nahum Peralta (1, Managua FC) – The Nicaraguan club fought tooth and nail with Motagua in their previous lone SCL appearance in 2019, with Gallego and Peralta accounting for a goal each in their 3-2 aggregate loss in the Round of 16 to the Honduran club.

Edwin Solano, Yustin Arboleda (1, CD Marathon) – Solano and Arboleda were the respective goalscorers for the Honduran club, who were narrowly eliminated 3-2 by Comunicaciones in the 2019 SCL Preliminary Round.

Edwin Aguilar (5, Tauro FC) – Aguilar has five goals to his name in the SCL with all of them coming in the 2018 edition when the Panamanian club reached the semifinals.

Wesley Cabrera (1, San Francisco) – The lone SCL appearance for the Panamanian club came in 2019 with Cabrera scoring San Francisco’s goal in a 6-1 aggregate defeat to Alianza of El Salvador.

Nahum Peralta, Lucio Barroca, Juan Barrera (1, Real Esteli) – Peralta has the distinction of being the only player in SCL history to be the top SCL scorer for two different clubs (Managua and Real Esteli). Peralta’s goal for Real Esteli came in the 2017 SCL, while Barroca and Barrera scored for the Nicaraguan club in the 2019 edition.
