MIAMI, Florida – The 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf League saw plenty of goals get scored, but these 10 stood out the most among their peers.
Ramiro Peters, Diriangen vs. Comunicaciones – Diriangen had never won an SCL match in four previous attempts, but that all changed in their Round of 16 first leg with 2021 champions Comunicaciones, as Ramiro Peters’ right-footed strike in the 34’ banked in off the post to give Diriangen a history-making 1-0 win.
Gianni Dos Santos, Pacific vs. Herediano – Pacific’s chances of evening their Round of 16 series with Herediano were dwindling, as they trailed 1-0 on aggregate in the 89’ of the second leg in Costa Rica. Gianni Dos Santos changed the story, though, with a sensational right-footed volley to send the tie to a penalty shootout.
Robinson Da Silva, Diriangen vs. Comunicaciones – Robinson Da Silva helped secure Diriangen’s first ever SCL series win with a beautiful touch of the left foot and even better finish into the top left corner in the 7’ in what served as the winning goal in their 2-1 series win over Comunicaciones.
Ramiro Rocca, Real Espana vs. Herediano – 2022 SCL Top Goal Scorer Award winner Ramiro Rocca scored the best of his six goals with this sweetly taken left-footed volley from across his body in the 80’ of the 3-1 win over Herediano in the quarterfinal first leg.
Carlos Mejia, Motagua vs. Cibao FC – A powerful left-footed strike from Mejia in the 79’ delivered a critical 1-0 victory for Motagua in their Round of 16 first leg with Cibao FC of the Dominican Republic.
Gabriel Araujo, Olimpia vs. Alajuelense – The title-winning goal for Olimpia came in the 86’ of the Final second leg against Alajuelense and it was Gabriel Araujo who duly delivered with a free kick that took a slight deflection and found the back of the net.
Carlos Sanchez, Olimpia vs. Motagua – Another goal that will forever live in Olimpia lore. In the 87’ of Olimpia’s semifinal second leg against historic rivals Motagua and the series still locked at 0-0, Sanchez’s left-footed rocket served as the ticket to the Final.
Michaell Chirinos, Olimpia vs. Alajuelense – The 2022 SCL Best Player Award winner supplied a crucial third score with a sizzling right-footed shot in the 68’ of Olimpia’s 3-2 Final first leg win versus Alajuelense, as the ball went blazing onto the underside of the crossbar and into net.
Celso Borges, Alajuelense vs. Real Espana – Borges reminded everyone of the class he possesses when he scored Alajuelense’s third goal in the 61’ of the 3-0 semifinal first leg win at Real Espana. Taking a pass from Johan Venegas, Borges charged toward goal and then cleverly chipped the goalkeeper for the score.
Jorge Alvarez, Olimpia vs. Alajuelense – With the score at 1-1 in the 47’ of the Final first leg, Alvarez took it upon himself to deliver a moment of magic with a spectacular right-footed shot from outside the area that curled around the Alajuelense defense and past GK Leonel Moreira for a memorable strike.
