HEREDIA, Costa Rica – On Wednesday, October 25, Herediano’s quest for a first ever Concacaf trophy will resume in the first leg of the 2018 Scotiabank Concacaf League final versus Motagua of Honduras.
However, before the Costa Rican outfit can turn its full attention to the clash with the Catrachos, a very important domestic contest is on the docket for the Florenses.
At present, Herediano is mired in the midst of a three-match losing streak, with defeats to Limon (3-0), Grecia (2-0) and Cartagines (3-2) in Costa Rica’s Liga Nacional.
This rough spell has dropped Herediano to fourth in the table with a record of 8W-4D-5L and 28 points.
With the first leg of the CNL final looming next week, a victory at home on Saturday against Perez Zeledon will be paramount.
Speaking with reporters in his post-match press conference following the defeat to Cartagines on Wednesday, Herediano Head Coach Paulo Cesar Wanchope expressed faith in his team’s resilience.
“The first thing is that the players continue competing like they competed today,” said Wanchope.
“That is the character I want, but they have to last 90 minutes. Today they exhausted themselves, last week they did not give what had to be given. These defeats are going to make us stronger. We’re hurting, but we’re not dead,” added Wanchope.
Following Saturday’s match versus Perez Zeledon, Herediano will begin its preparation for the CNL final first leg on Wednesday at home at the Estadio Eladio Rosabal Cordero in Heredia.
