CONCACAF.com provides an offering of storylines for you to follow during domestic league action this weekend:
CANADA
How will overall Major League Soccer leader Toronto FC (18W-8D-4L, 62 points) respond to seeing its six-match winning streak (and an 11-game unbeaten run) end after a 5-3 midweek loss to the visiting Montreal Impact? Next up for the Reds, a Saturday trip to the New England Revolution.
COSTA RICA
On the strength of a 4-0 win over visiting Municipal Liberia on Wednesday, Saprissa (7-1-2, 22) catapulted to the top of the Invierno table, playing one more game than unbeaten Herediano (6-3-0, 21). In order to stay in first place, the Monstruo Morado may have to beat 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League finalist Santos de Guapiles (3-4-2, 13) on the road Sunday.
EL SALVADOR
El Salvador’s representatives in the 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League will square off Sunday, when first-place and unbeaten Alianza (6-4-0, 22) visits sixth-place Aguila (3-4-3, 13). That same day, in order to earn its fifth straight win, second-place Isidro Metapan (6-1-3, 19) will have to overcome host Luis Angel Firpo (2-4-4, 10).
HONDURAS
Second-place Motagua (3-4-0, 13) will look to stay unbeaten in the Apertura by avoiding a loss at last-place Platense (1-1-4, 4) on Saturday. Plus, Olimpia (2-2-2, 8) may have reached the 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League final this week, but it sits eighth in the domestic standings. A victory over seventh-place Real Sociedad (2-3-2, 9) on Sunday will snap the Leones’ four-match winless streak.
MEXICO
Due to the earthquake that struck Mexico earlier this week, the Liga MX announced Wednesday that this weekend’s games have been postponed.
NICARAGUA
Matters have tightened considerably as second-place Walter Ferretti (7-1-1, 22) has closed to within three points of table-topping Real Esteli (8-1-1, 25). Ferretti will host seventh-place Chinandega (3-3-4, 12) on Saturday, while Esteli will visit eight-place Real Madriz (2-3-5, 9) a day later.
PANAMA
Now that first-place Plaza Amador (5-5-0, 20) and second-place Arabe Unido (5-5-0, 20 … trails Plaza on goals scored, 13-15) have both been eliminated from the Scotiabank CONCACAF League, they can concentrate entirely on their tightly-contested domestic campaigns. On Sunday, Plaza will host last-place Alianza (1-3-6, 6), while Arabe visits ninth-place Santa Gema (1-3-6, 6).
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO
The weekend’s big game will pit first-place North Stars (6-3-1, 21) against three-time defending champion and host Central FC (2-4-3, 10) on Friday at Ato Boldon Stadium.
USA
Somewhat remarkably, no team in the league is currently on a winning streak of more than one game. Keep your eye on Sunday night’s match between the host Portland Timbers (2nd place Western Conference; 12-8-10, 44) and Orlando City SC (9th place Eastern Conference, 9-8-12, 35). Portland is trying to jump over Vancouver Whitecaps FC for the first place in the Western Conference, while Orlando City is bidding for a playoff berth.
