MIAMI, Florida – The Round of 16 of the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf League will wrap up on Tuesday night when Alajuelense of Costa Rica host Panama’s San Francisco at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
Alajuelense’s 2020 SCL got off to a roaring start with a decisive 3-0 victory over Cibao FC of the Dominican Republic in the Preliminary Round. The hero on the night was legendary striker Alvaro Saborio, who netted a pair of goals in the win for the Ticos.
Saborio isn’t the only star name on the Alajuelense roster, as Costa Rican National Team stalwart Bryan Ruiz also brings plenty of firepower in attack.
Coupled with veteran defensive figures like Panamanian Adolfo Machado, Alajuelense have the ingredients to continue their momentum and reach the quarterfinals.
However, it will not be easy against a San Francisco side that is hungry to start their SCL off on the right foot.
This marks the second SCL appearance for the Canalero club, who qualified for the tournament by possessing the best aggregate record among non-champions in Panama during the 2019-20 season.
The San Francisco back line will have to be on its toes to contain Alajuelense’s firepower, and it will certainly help to have the likes of fullback Roberto Chen in the mix and leading the way.
With just two goals conceded in five domestic matches this season in Panama, San Francisco should feel ready to take on all comers.
Kick-off is scheduled for 10:15 PM ET and can be seen via TSN.ca/TSN App (Canada), TUDN (USA-Spanish), FS1 (USA-English), ESPN 2 (Central America) and Fox Sports 2 (Mexico).
