MAZATENANGO, Guatemala – Guatemala’s Suchitepequez announced Sunday that the contract of head coach Douglas Zamora has been terminated by mutual agreement. Edwin Vasquez has been named as his replacement.
The move was made after the Venados lost 4-0 at Comunicaciones in a 2016 Apertura encounter a day earlier, leaving the defending champion winless after two games (0W-1D-1L, 1 point) and dropping it to 11th place in the 12-team league.
Zamora was appointed to the post in January after Walter Claveri was chosen to lead the Guatemala national team. He posted an overall record of (15-4-9).
The 36-year-old Vasquez, a former Nueva Concepcion player, previously was in charge of Suchitepequez’s under-20 team.
Suchitepequez returns to action Wednesday with a visit to fellow 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League participant Antigua GFC.
