MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup Final will mark a historic milestone for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, as the club is set to play the tournament’s decisive stage for the first time.

Whitecaps FC also seeks to etch the organization’s name into history books by becoming the first Canadian side to lift the Champions Cup.

Manager Jesper Sørensen and his players previewed the decisive match at Saturday’s Media Day. Ahead are some of the notable quotes edited for clarity.

Head Coach Jesper Sørensen

For us, it's obviously a very, very big moment. It's first time in club history, and I think that it's a moment of appreciation also. You have to be able to enjoy it but also be excited about being here. Having said that, we're not here just to participate. We want to win, of course. I think that we've shown all through this competition so far that we are resilient and a strong team, and we know that's what we have to be again tomorrow to be champions of this tournament.

We are up against a giant, but we would like to create our own history, so we will focus more on ourselves and what we can do and what we can achieve.

Defender Ranko Veselinović

We believe in ourselves. We think we've been really good this season. We've been really good in this competition. We won a few rounds, even here in Mexico, one in this stadium. We know what we need to do to have a result. We'll try to do that tomorrow and try to win this trophy.

This is probably the biggest game in our club. Two Canadian teams already play in the final, they didn't win. So, there's also one more thing for us to achieve tomorrow. To write even a little bit more history, to be the first Canadian team.

Cruz Azul is a great team, but we came here to show what we can do, to write history for ourselves. They're going to try do the same. They're going to be ready, prepared, but we don't need any extra motivation.

Midfielder Pedro Vite

We know it's a very difficult match. They're here with all their fans at home, but we have to do our job as we've been doing.

We have to be prepared and be mentally strong for the entire 90 minutes. If we play well, we can do what we want, which is to win the championship and enjoy after the match.

Forward Brian White

Obviously, it’s nice as a striker to score goals, but most important is to help the team get to this moment.  For me it’s about how I can help the team win. If that’s zero goals for me and the team wins the final, I’ll take that.

I think every round we’ve gone through everyone says it’s the biggest game in club history. We continue to build off those good moments, and hopefully we can make another one tomorrow.
