Brian White becomes Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s all-time top scorer in the Champions Cup

With a goal in both legs to help Vancouver Whitecaps FC overcome Inter Miami CF, forward Brian White reached five goals this 2025 edition. He also reached seven CCC career goals to become the Canadian’s side all-time top scorer in the competition.

Additionally, he matched the single edition scoring record for a Whitecaps player to tie Christian Techera (2016/17).

 

 

Whitecaps FC becomes third Canadian club to reach the Champions Cup Final

After CF Montreal (2015) and Toronto FC (2018), Vancouver Whitecaps FC became the third Canadian club to reach the Final, and the first to do so under the single-match format.

The Canadian club’s journey to the Final began in Round One with a 3-2 comeback win on aggregate against Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa.

In the Round of 16, the ‘Caps earned a thrilling away-goals victory over CF Monterrey, tying 2-2 away in the second leg to win 3-3 on aggregate.

The story repeated itself in the Quarterfinals, as Whitecaps FC secured a 2–2 draw at Pumas UNAM, with a stoppage time equalizer to advance on away goals.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC secured a spot in the Final with consecutive victories in the Semifinals, culminating in a dominant 5-1 aggregate victory over Inter Miami CF.

 

 

Ángel Sepúlveda scores his seventh goal of the tournament

Mexican forward Ángel Sepúlveda once again played a crucial role to help Cruz Azul advance, converting from the spot against Tigres UANL for the series-winning strike in the second leg. Sepúlveda increased his tally to seven in the 2025 edition to continue leading the Golden Boot race.

The goal also saw Sepúlveda tie La Máquina legends Carlos Hermosillo (1996) and Javier Orozco (2008/09) for most goals by a Cruz Azul player in a single edition.

 

 

Cruz Azul earns 68th all-time Champions Cup victory 

Cruz Azul secured its 68th all-time victory in the Champions Cup with its 1-nil win in the second leg against Tigres UANL of the semifinals, becoming the Mexican club with the most wins in the history of the tournament.

The win also helped Cruz Azul become the team with the third-most CCC wins, only behind Costa Rican teams LD Alajuelense (69) and Deportivo Saprissa (74).
