MIAMI, Florida – Sparks are set to fly as Inter Miami and Nashville SC meet in the second leg of their 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 series on Wednesday night at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The two teams played to a thrilling 2-2 draw in the first leg last week in Nashville, where a pair of goals from Jacob Shaffelburg gave the home side a 2-0 lead, only for Inter Miami to battle back through goals from 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Lionel Messi and star striker Luis Suarez, the latter coming in second half stoppage time.

It was the first Champions Cup goal for each player in their decorated careers and they will be looking to add more in what will be the first ever Champions Cup home match for Inter Miami.

Inter Miami’s recent home form against Nashville has been favorable. In two matches played at home against Nashville in 2023, Inter Miami collected a 0-0 draw followed by a 2-1 win in the U.S. Open Cup.

Messi finished the first leg with five shots, while Suarez dished out the assist on the Messi goal, in addition to his late score.

Another key part to Inter Miami’s comeback was MF Sergio Busquets. A World Cup winner himself with Spain in 2010, the veteran completed 78 passes and served up the assist on Suarez’s equalizer.

Nashville will counter with their own array of attacking talent. Shaffelburg has been superb in this Champions Cup with three goals and an assist, while Hany Mukhtar and Sam Surridge, who each have a goal and an assist in the tournament, returned to the fray in the first leg.

Another one to watch is fullback Shaq Moore. The United States international assisted on one of the Shaffelburg goals and made four ball recoveries in the first leg.
