MIAMI – The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 continues as 2022 Concacaf Champions League winners Seattle Sounders FC host Atlético de Madrid in Group B on Thursday at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, USA.
Both clubs lost their opening group stage matches and are seeking their first points of the tournament. The Spanish side was blanked by reigning UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain 4-nil, while the Sounders fell just short to Botafogo 2-1.
Sounders staple Cristian Roldan scored the MLS club’s lone goal in their opening match. Roldan had six goal contributions during Seattle’s 2022 Concacaf Champions League run.
The MLS side, which as losing 2-0 at halftime against Botafogo, was impressive in the second half. They had 64% possession and outshout the Brazilian club 19-5.
Atletico Madrid has won eight of the last nine meetings against a team they are facing for the first time. Diego Simeone’s side will likely rely on Antoine Griezmann and Julián Alvarez to ignite the offense.
Atleti qualified for the competition as one of the highest-ranked eligible teams in the UEFA four-year yanking.
