SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Fabrizo Ronchetti scored two goals on his official debut and visiting Saprissa registered a 3-0 win over UCR at the Estadio Jose Joaqun Colleya Fonseca.

The victory improved the Monstruo Morado to 1W-1D-0L in the 2016 Costa Rican Invierno, with league-best six goals scored.

"It was a close and competitive game,” said Saprissa head coach Carlos Watson. “Maybe the score can make it look easy but it wasn’t,” The" U" is a very difficult team traits of a different profile to other teams.”

Saprissa also netted three goals in a season-opening draw with San Carlos on Saturday. Watson is very pleased with the early-season production of his offense.

“"In two rounds, we’ve scored six goals and that's positive,” he commented. “It gives a lot of confidence but we know we have a lot to improve.”

After a scoreless first half, the 30-year-old Ronchetti – an offseason addition from Cartagines – gave Saprissa a 2-0 lead with goals in the 49th and 78th minutes. Roy Miller completed the scoreline with five minutes left in normal time.

Goalkeeper Danny Carvajal was outstanding in registering a clean sheet, a fact that also drew Watson’s praise.

"It's not the first time Danny Carvajal is decisive,” remarked the 64-year-old. “He is a goalkeeper who has given us championships. He, like all the team, did a great job."

Saprissa, a 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League participant, will host Carmelita on Sunday.
