SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Saprissa made its final roster addition for the 2018 Costa Rican Clausura, announcing Wednesday that forward Ariel Rodriguez will return to the club from Thailand’s Bangkok Glass on a six-month loan.
The Costa Rica international originally played for the Monstruo Morado from 2013-15 (123 games/51 goals).
Rodriguez, Saprissa’s all-time leading scorer in Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (SCCL)play (9 games/5 goals), is expected to bolster a strike force that already includes Daniel Colindres, David Ramirez, Jonathan Moya and Jerry Bengtson.
With Costa Rica, the 28-year-old has netted two goals in three games, including one in a 3-0 win over French Guiana in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Saprissa opens its 2018 SCCL campaign in the Round of 16 on February 21 against visiting Club America.
