CARTAGO, Costa Rica-- Cartagines scored a goal in each half to defeat visiting Real España 2-0 in a preseason friendly on Sunday at the Estadio José Rafael “Fello” Meza Ivancovich.

A 29th minute own-goal by Porciano Avila off an initial shot from Carlos Hernandez and a Jameson Scott penalty kick with nine minutes left in normal time provided the margin of difference.

The host’s Nestor Monge Guevara and Kevin Espinoza of Real España were both ejected from the match.

Real España, which opens its 2014/15 CONCACAF Champions League schedule August 6 at Pachuca, will next face Herediano on Wednesday.
