TORONTO – The Portland Timbers announced Sunday that midfielder Will Johnson underwent successful surgery in Toronto to stabilize a fractured tibia and fibula in his right leg.

Johnson, who suffered the injury just seconds into Saturday’s Major League Soccer (MLS) match at Toronto FC, is expected to be out of action for approximately six months.

The 27-year-old Canada international made 29 MLS appearances in 2014, recording six goals.  Additionally, he’s scored once in two CONCACAF Champions League (CCL) outings.

The Timbers (3-0-0, 9 points) will need only a draw or a minimal loss to secure a CCL quarterfinal berth, when they travel to Honduras for the Group 5 finale against Olimpia (2-0-1, 6 points) on October 21.
