MIAMI, Florida – The four semifinalists of the 2023 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League continued their domestic campaigns over the weekend in both Major League Soccer (MLS) and Liga MX.

Prior to the start of their semifinal with the Philadelphia Union, Los Angeles FC earned a precious point in a 1-1 final at Nashville SC.

LAFC enjoyed a strong start but suddenly found themselves down 1-0 in the 35’ after a Hany Mukhtar goal.

But the visitors from Los Angeles would rally for an equalizer, as current 2023 SCCL top scorer Denis Bouanga (5 goals) scored with a powerful right-footed effort in the 59’ to earn his side a 1-1 draw and a point.

LAFC remain the lone unbeaten team in MLS with a 5W-3D-0L record, good for third place in the Western Conference.

The Philadelphia Union were also in action over the weekend and rolled to a 4-2 victory against Toronto FC thanks in large part to a hat trick from Mikael Uhre.

The Union grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 16’ when an attempted clearance from the Toronto FC took a deflection and went in. After that fortuitous bounce, Uhre went right to work and doubled the advantage to 2-0 in the 20’ with a right-footed shot that also took a deflection of its own before rippling the back of the net.

Uhre made it 3-0 in the 43’ with a clean left-footed strike and then completed his hat trick in the 56’ by turning in a cross from the right to extend the lead to 4-0.

Toronto FC scored a pair of goals in the 66’ and 90+2’ through Lorenzo Insigne and Richie Laryea, respectively, to make it 4-2, but the three points belonged to the Union, who are now seventh in the Eastern Conference with a 3W-2D-4L record.

In Liga MX action, Tigres collected a full three points in a 1-0 home win against Puebla.

After spending the first half on the bench as a substitute, Andre-Pierre Gignac entered the match for the second stanza and immediately made an impact, drawing a foul in the 47’ in the area and then converting the resulting penalty kick in the 49’ for a 1-0 Tigres lead.

Tigres GK Nahuel Guzman was sure-handed in goal the rest of the way to nail down the victory for the Felinos, who are now seventh in the Liga MX table with a 7W-4D-5L record.

Club Leon picked up a positive result in a 0-0 draw at Club Tijuana after playing the final 76 minutes with just 10 men.

Oscar Villa was sent off in the 14’, but the visitors did well to keep Tijuana at bay until the final whistle to nail down the point.

With the result, Club Leon are sixth in the table with a mark of 7W-6D-3L.
