TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Honduras international Roger Rojas confirmed Monday that he will leave 2014/15 CONCACAF Champions League (CCL) qualifier Olimpia on a one-year loan to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq.
The 24-year-old forward will be the first Honduran to play in the Middle Eastern country.
"I'll be on loan for one year with an option to purchase,” said Rojas. “I hope everything goes well in this new experience that I have. It's something I have always wanted and dreamed of.”
He has netted three times in 18 senior international appearances for Honduras, including one in a 2014 World Cup qualifier against Jamaica last year. In 119 games with Olimpia, Rojas scored 70 goals. Additionally, he is the club’s all-time leading CCL scorer with eight tallies.
Before traveling to Saudi Arabia, Rojas – who has also represented Honduras at the under-17, under-20 and under-23 levels -- married his fiancee Alejandra Bonilla.
Olimpia will open its seventh CCL campaign on August 5 at Guyana’s Alpha United.
