HARRISON, New Jersey – The New York Red Bulls earned a 2-0 win over visiting Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (SCCL) champion Club America in a friendly on Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena.

Shaun Wright-Phillips and Dan Metzger scored one goal each, while goalkeeper Kyle Reynish kept the clean sheet.

The Red Bulls, who will open their third SCCL campaign next month, went ahead less than three minutes into the match. Wright-Phillips spectacularly hit the back of the net after executing a bicycle kick from five-yards out off Sean Davis’ left-sided corner kick that was headed on by Damien Perrinelle and Gideon Baah.

In the 53rd minute, Metzger made it 2-0 by curling in a Brandon Allen feed from the top of the box.

New York returns to MLS action against fellow SCCL side Portland Timbers on July 10. Club America will continue preparations for the upcoming Liga MX Apertura season with another friendly on July 9, when it faces Santos in San Antonio, Texas.
