MONTREAL -- Marco Di Vaio scored in the first half as ten-man Impact de Montreal held on to record a 1-0 victory over CD FAS in the CONCACAF Champions League’s Group 3 on Tuesday at the Stade Saputo.

Di Vaio gave the Impact (1-0-0, 3 points) all the scoring it needed in the 21st minute, when he headed home a Felipe Martins feed past goalkeeper Luis Contreras.

The Canadian champion made sure the lead stood up although the Salvadoran side pushed for the equalizer over the final half hour, but its efforts proved to be in vain.

FAS (0-0-1, 0 points) was helped by a man advantage over the final 28 minutes of regulation and three minutes of stoppage time.  Hassoun Camara was red carded in the 72nd minute for a hard foul on FAS’ Raul Renderos at midfield. 

Ten minutes later, Montreal head coach Frank Klopas was ejected from the bench for apparently for disputing a call.

Di Vaio was quite active in the early going as his shot from the middle of the penalty area was saved by Contreras in the 11th minute.

Six minutes later, teammate Andres Romero fired a right-footed effort from the left side of the box that Contreras stopped.

Two minutes into the second half, Contreras was up to the task again, denying Martin's hard 15-yard attempt from the left side. 

The visitors produced perhaps the encounter’s prettiest play in the 68th minute.  Juan Carlos Moscoso ran through the Montreal midfield and defense before dishing the ball off to Jonathan Aguila, who drilled a shot that keeper Evan Bush smothered at the near right post. 

FAS had an opportunity to tie it in the 81st minute after Montreal's Karl Ouimette took down Lester Blanco just outside the top left of the area.  The ensuing free kick, however, was blocked for a corner kick. 

The Impact extended its superb home defensive record in the CCL to 405 scoreless minutes, while FAS failed to score for the fifth consecutive away match.

The Tigres next will be in action against the New York Red Bulls, another MLS side, in Harrison, N.J. on August 26.  The Impact will have to wait until September 17 for its next CCL match, when it hosts New York.

NOTES: Montreal is unbeaten in eight all-time CCL matches at home (6-2-0).
