MONTERREY, Mexico – Defender Ivan Piris will make his first foray into Mexican football after agreeing to terms with Monterrey, the Liga MX club announced Wednesday.
The Paraguay international spent the last two seasons with Italy’s Udinese, appearing in 58 Serie A games. He started his career at home with Cerro Porteño in 2008 and had subsequent spells with Sao Paulo, Roma and Sporting Lisbon.
Piris, who competed at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup, has earned 23 caps and has played in two matches during Paraguay’s qualifying campaign for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Monterrey, a three-time Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League champion and 2016/17 participant, will open its 2016 Liga MX Apertura season on Saturday against visiting Puebla.
