Manuel Keosseian (pictured) was named head coach of Municipal for a third time on September 29, 2014.

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala – Municipal announced Monday that Manuel Keosseian will take the club’s head coaching reins for the third time, replacing Aníbal Ruiz, who resigned last week.

Ruiz stepped down last Thursday after a 4-1 loss at Mexico’s Pachuca, a result that eliminated the Rojos from the 2014/15 CONCACAF Champions League (CCL).

"I'm very happy and grateful for this opportunity," said the Uruguayan.  "I'm going to do a good job for the remainder of the year.  A very good coach left Municipal.  The leaders know what kind of person I am.  I'm very pleased and return gladly.”

Keosseian was previously in charge of the Guatemalan power March-June 2010, winning the 2010 Clausura title, and February-May 2011, finishing as runner-up to Comunicaciones.

He will be tasked with bringing Municipal its first domestic title since the 2011 Apertura and obtaining a place in the next CCL.

"We have to win the tournament," Keosseian declared.  “There is no choice.”

In addition to multiple spells with Municipal, Keosseian has also coached Marathon (Honduras), Alajuelense and Saprissa (both Costa Rica), as well as Peñarol, Danubio and Nacional (all Uruguay), among others.

Municipal currently sit third in the 2014 Guatemalan Apertura, seven points behind first-place Marquense, but has played two less games.  The sides will meet on Sunday in what should be Keosseian’s debut.
