FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas midfielder Mauro Diaz underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair a torn Achilles tendon in his lower right leg.

The injury was suffered in the 89th minute of Sunday’s 2-1 win over the visiting Seattle Sounders.

The 25-year-old Argentine, who joined FCD in 2013 after spending most of his professional career with River Plate, has appeared in one 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League game and is tied for third in Major League Soccer with 13 assists.

Diaz will miss FC Dallas’ SCCL clash at Guatemala’s Suchitepequez on Thursday, plus the remainder of the 2016 MLS season.
