SANTA ANA, El Salvador – Two days after Efrain Burgos announced his resignation from CD FAS, Agustin Castillo was named head coach on Thursday.
Castillo is taking up his fourth stint with the Salvadoran club, which he has guided to five titles (2002 Clausura, 2002 Apertura, 2003 Apertura, 2004 Apertura, 2005 Clausura).
Citing personal reasons, Burgos stepped down on September 2. The Tigres have only five points from four 2014 Apertura matches and were eliminated from CONCACAF Champions League contention on August 26, following a 2-0 defeat at the New York Red Bulls. It was FAS’s third straight loss in the competition, leaving it with a consolation match against the American team on September 24 at Estadio Cuscatlan.
The 51-year-old Castillo led El Salvador to the quarterfinals of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, before returning to his native Peru to coach Union Comercio.
