GUADALAJARA ROLLS TO FIRST WIN OF SEASON
Guadalajara earned its first win of the 2018 Liga MX Clausura, posting a 3-1 win over host Necaxa on Saturday. Chivas (1W-1D-1L, 4 points) got off to a quick start through an Alan Pulido strike (10’). Following Carlos Gonzalez’s equalizer prior to halftime, the visitor took command in the second half on goals from new arrival Ronaldo Cisneros (65’) and Edwin Hernandez (89’).
HEREDIANO WINS CLASH OF TITANS IN COSTA RICA
In a battle of two of Costa Rica’s most decorated clubs -- and the country’s two 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (SCCL) representatives – host Herediano topped Saprissa, 1-0. Allan Cruz scored the game’s lone goal. The Florenses improved to 3-0-2 and climbed into third-place in the 2018 Clausura table. Saprissa (4-0-1, 12) saw its four-game winning streak to open the season end, but remained in first place.
TAURO FLEXES DEFENSIVE MUSCLES
If the first two weeks of the 2018 Panamanian Clausura are any indication, FC Dallas will have its hands full trying to score against Tauro in their 2018 SCCL Round of 16 series next month. For the second consecutive week Tauro registered a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw at Plaza Amador. Tauro (0-2-0, 2) have played to two consecutive 0-0 draws to open the season.
HONDURAN APERTURA KICKS OFF WITH GOALS
The 2018 Honduran Apertura opened this past weekend with the five games generating a healthy return of 18 goals. A brace from Franklin Morales (25’, 37’) led Honduras Progreso to a 4-3 win over visitinkg Juticalpa.
HERNANDEZ BACK ON SCORESHEET FOR WEST HAM
Mexico international Javier Hernandez scored his first goal since October 28, 2017, helping host West Ham to a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth in the English Premier League on Saturday. The 29-year-old forward now has five goals in 18 appearances.
OVIEDO HELPS SUNDERLAND SHAKE SLUMP
Costa Rica international Bryan Oviedo helped 22nd-place Sunderland secure a much-needed 1-0 victory over Hull City in the English Championship on Saturday, breaking a three-match losing streak in the process. The 27-year-old Twas the defensive hero for the Black Cats, as his headed clearance off the line prevented a second-half equalizer.
