MEXICO CITY -- Second-half substitute Michael Arroyo scored in the 102nd minute to lift 10-man Club America to a 1-0 semifinal victory over Santos and into the 2015/16 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League final at the Estadio Azteca on Tuesday night.

Arroyo's free kick sailed over a four-man wall and through the hands of an otherwise spectacular goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin for his fourth goal of the competition.

The teams played to a scoreless draw in the first leg last month.

In the two-legged final, defending champion Club America will face Tigres, which will host the opener on April 20, defeated Queretaro 2-0 earlier in the evening to capture that series by the same score.

Forward Carlos Darwin Quintero was red carded in the 87th minute for foul on Diego Gonzalez from behind, leaving the Aguilas a man down through extra time.

Another second-half sub, Dario Benedetto, the hero of last year’s SCCL final series, came close to securing an insurance goal as his shot pinged off the right post in the 120th minute.

The host attacked from the start, keeping the Santos defense and Marchesin on their toes.

Marchesin was tested early and often.  He blocked Oribe Peralta’s shot from the left side of the penalty area in the third minute. A Paul Aguillar attempt from the right side in the 17th minute forced the 28-year-old Argentine into a diving save as his left hand slammed into the right post.

Striker Martin Bravo nearly put the visitor ahead in the 43rd minute, stripping Pablo Aguilar of the ball and unleashing a 16-yard shot that caromed off the crossbar.

Another Bravo takeaway resulted in a scoring chance, but his effort was easily corralled by goalkeeper Moises Munoz.

Club America continued to attack in waves after the break.

Marchesin, however, was magical.  He denied Andres Andrade in the 48th minute, punched away Osvaldo Martinez's shot from distance five minutes later and saved a short-range try by Quintero in the 59th minute, before he proved to be mortal in extra time.

An away team has never won the second leg of a SCCL semifinal (0W-3D-13L) in 16 all-time games.
