ORLANDO, Florida – Seven-time Concacaf champions Club America of Mexico will be out to avoid any surprises when they face Atlanta United in the second leg of their 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League quarterfinal on Wednesday night at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
The 2014/15 and 2015/16 winners emerged with a 3-0 victory in the first leg in Mexico City back in March and can reach the semifinal stage for the first time since 2018 with a result on Wednesday.
Las Aguilas have spread the wealth thus far in the tournament when it comes to scoring, as five different players account for the team’s five goals.
One of the leaders in attack is FW Sebastian Cordova, who scored in the 1-1 draw with Guatemala’s Comunicaciones in the Round of 16 first leg. Cordova also leads the team in fouls received (10) and shots (10).
Meanwhile, MF Richard Sanchez has supplied much of the creativity, with two assists, 130 passes attempted and six shots.
Atlanta United will be without their main goal-scorer Josef Martinez (2 goals), who remains out with a knee injury.
The onus will be on dynamic winger Ezequiel Barco to help generate chances, with the Argentine being one of the team leaders in passes attempted (113), shots (8) and ball recoveries (5).
As for goals, Atlanta United will look to new arrival FW Marcelino Moreno, who scored two goals in the final two MLS regular season matches and will need to supply some early scores on Wednesday.
Kick-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET and can be seen via TSN.ca/TSN App (Canada), TUDN (USA-Spanish), FS1 (USA-English), ESPN 2 (Central America) and Fox Sports 2 (Mexico).
