MEXICO CITY, Mexico – Club America announced Tuesday the acquisition of Ecuador international Michael Arroyo, who appeared in two games for the South Americans at the recently completed FIFA World Cup.

Last season, the midfielder scored eight goals in 16 matches for Atlante, which was relegated after the 2014 Liga MX Clausura.

Arroyo joins Jose Madueña, Moises Velasco, Osmar Mares, Paolo Goltz, Gonzalo Diaz and 2013 CONCACAF Player of the Year Oribe Peralta as the Aguilas’ newest roster additions ahead of their 2014 Apertura and 2014/15 CONCACAF Champions League campaigns.

At the World Cup, the 27-year-old came on as a substitute against Switzerland and started against France in Group E, but did not face Honduras.

He started his career with Emelec (2005-2008) and has also played for Deportivo Quito (2009-2010) and Barcelona (2012-2013) in his country, as well as San Luis (2010-2011) and Atlante (2012, 2014) in Mexico.

Arroyo has scored three goals in 22 international appearances with Ecuador.
