MIAMI, Florida – The Round of 16 of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup is now complete. It was an exciting two weeks of action around the region in which the brightest stars stood out, and none more so than 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Lionel Messi.
The Argentina superstar, playing in his first ever Concacaf Champions Cup, made an instant impact in what was Inter Miami’s first ever Champions Cup series.
Inter Miami defeated Nashville SC 5-3 on aggregate, with Messi having a hand in three of those goals. With his team facing a 2-0 deficit in the first leg at Nashville, Messi scored his first Champions Cup goal to turn the series in Inter Miami’s favor.
The 36-year-old was even better in the second leg, as he provided the assist for Luis Suarez’s opening goal and then supplied a goal himself to give Inter Miami a two-goal lead on aggregate that they never relinquished.
