ALAJUELA, Costa Rica -- Alajuelense announced Wednesday that it has signed defender Raymond Fernandez, who spent last season with Puntarenas FC.
The move was necessitated after Jose Salvatierra suffered a right-knee injury in a CONCACAF Champions League match at Mexico’s Cruz Azul on August 5.
“With the injury to Salvatierra, it was important to bring in an efficient man for the right back sector,” said Alajuelense head coach Oscar Ramirez. “The coaching staff has been observing this young player and the truth is that we consider that he can adapt well to our ideas. He shows interesting things and we hope that he comes in to give his best.”
In addition to his spell with Puntarenas, the 26-year-old Fernandez previously played with Costa Rican sides Ramonense and Barrio Mexico.
