SEATTLE, Washington -- Seattle Sounders FC announced Thursday the signing of United States international Jordan Morris.
The 21-year-old forward joins the club following a standout amateur career at Stanford University, where he led the Cardinal to a National Championship in 2015, while capturing MAC Hermann Trophy honors as the USA’s best collegiate player.
"We as a club are extremely excited, and me as a coach am extremely happy, to have him on the team,” head coach Sigi Schmid said. “We are all looking forward to this. It makes our team stronger. As our team gets stronger, it makes us better as an organization."
Morris has earned seven caps for the U.S., making his debut in a 4-1 loss at Ireland on November 18, 2014. He scored his first international goal against visiting Mexico on April 15, 2015, netting in the 49th minute of a 2-0 victory.
In addition to his impact with the senior squad, Morris struck for three goals in five matches for the U.S. under-23 national team at the 2015 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship.
"I lived around Seattle my whole life and I grew up following this club in its USL days, and MLS days as well,” said Morris, a product of the Seattle’s youth academy. “It's a huge honor to be back here, to be back home, and to get going."
The Sounders have advanced to the 2015/16 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals and will host defending champion Club America in the first leg on February 23.
