MEXICO CITY – For only the second time in seven editions of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (SCCL), the final will not be an all-Mexican affair.
The Impact de Montreal is the second non-Mexican side to emerge from the semifinals with an opportunity to lift the trophy. In 2010-11, the USA’s Real Salt Lake took Monterrey to the limit, before falling (3-2) on aggregate.
On this occasion, Club America will provide the opposition. The Aguilas have ample volumes of history to support them in preparation to host Wednesday’s first leg at the Estadio Azteca. Motivation will come in many forms, including the challenge of equaling Cruz Azul’s record for most CONCACAF titles at six, attempting to win the SCCL for the first time, making a second appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup and continuing Mexico’s uninterrupted run of six straight SCCL championships.
Before all the pre-game predictions are made and the first ball dribbled, CONCACAF.com takes a look back at the previous six SCCL finals.
