SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – With a win over first-place Perez Zeldeon (2W-0D-0L, 6 points) on Wednesday night, host Saprissa (1-1-0, 4) will jump to the top of the 2017 Costa Rican Invierno Quadrangular table regardless of the Santos de Guapiles-Herediano result.

The Monstruo Morado have conceded a goal in its opening two matches, drawing 0-0 at Santos de Guapiles and following it up with a 1-0 win over regular-season champion Herediano on Sunday.

A win in the third of six Quadrangular matches is critical to his team’s title hopes, according to head coach Carlos Watson: “We are going step by step, little by little. We have to win [on Wednesday].”

Saprissa has been difficult to beat this season at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Ayma, where it posted eight wins (tied for first in league) and scored a league-best 29 goals.

“We understand that at home we are more than 11,” Watson finished. “We are always supported. We are going to receive a lot of support from the fans and our intention is to back that up. We have a huge commitment to our fans. We are going to fight centimeter by centimeter.”

In their pair of regular-season meetings, Saprissa and Perez Zeledon each won once as the visitor by the same 2-1 score.
