Pachuca’s home record a real SCCL advantage

PACHUCA, Mexico – If there is one thing that Pachuca can rely on in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, it’s getting the right result at home.

On Tuesday, the Tuzos will host Saprissa in the second leg of their 2016/17 quarterfinal series at the Estadio Hidalgo, where they have posted a nearly perfect 11W-1D-0L mark in the competition.

Last Tuesday’s opener ended in a scoreless draw.

“It is going to be a difficult match, they play good football,” said Pachuca goalkeeper Oscar Perez in regard to the Monstruo Morado. “We have to take advantage of being at home and look to win the match.”

Over that remarkable 11-match stretch, Pachuca has scored 30 goals. Even more significant, perhaps, is that it has posted eight shutouts and allowed only five goals.

While those stats bold well for the 2009/10 SCCL champion, Perez insists the fans must play their part as well.

“It will be nice for the people and, in the end, the fans are going to support us,” the 44-year-old custodian finished. “There have been good attendances and hopefully they can attend, that accompany us. I hope we can give another enjoyment.”

Pachuca’s only SCCL blemish at home came on February 24, 2015, a 2-2 draw with the Montreal Impact in a quarterfinal, first-leg encounter. The series finished 3-3 on aggregate and the Canadian side advanced on the away-goals rule.
