PACHUCA, MEXICO – Pachuca’s hold on the eighth and final spot in the 2017 Liga MX Clausura became more tenuous after a 0-0 draw with visiting Guadalajara in front of 26,630 fans at the Estadio Hidalgo on Saturday.
At the end of the evening, the Tuzos held only a one-point advantage over Tigres – its opponent in the 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League final that opens Tuesday.
Even though Chivas played the last 17 minutes down a man after Michael Perez’s ejection, Pachuca failed to score in a fifth consecutive domestic match. Equally remarkable, perhaps, the six-time Mexican champion has conceded only one goal in the last four outings of that stretch.
The host did have opportunities to score, but were thwarted by goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota, who made a series of outstanding saves, including a diving one in the 14th minute to deny an Omar Gonzalez effort that was directed at the lower-left post.
