ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates – Although Pachuca fell short of reaching the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup final, CONCACAF was well represented in Saturday’s decider between defending champion Real Madrid and Brazil’s Gremio at Zayed Sports City Stadium.
The match was officiated by referee Cesar Ramos and assistant referees Marvin Torrentera and Miguel Hernandez, all from Mexico.
Real Madrid retained the title thanks to a 1-0 win on Cristiano Ronaldo’s 53rd-minute free kick from 28-yards out.
Earlier this year, Ramos – the 2016 CONCACAF Male Referee of the Year and a candidate for the 2017 accolade – refereed in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the second leg of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League final and a key World Cup qualifier between host Costa Rica and Honduras.
