ALAJUELA, Costa Rica – Herediano completed regular-season play in the 2017 Costa Rican Invierno on Tuesday with a 1-0 win over host Carmelita on Luis Landin’s 59th-minute goal and, in the process, set two records.

The first-place Florenses went unbeaten in 22 games (16W-6D-0L), breaking the mark of 21 set by Saprissa in 2003.

They also established a new standard for points in a short tournament, finishing with 54, edging Alajuelense’s 53 in the 2014 Invierno.

Defending-champion Herediano, which opens the six-game Quadrangular at fourth-seeded Perez Zeledon on Sunday, has not lost since it dropped a 1-0 decision to Saprissa on May 10, 2017 – a stretch of 25 matches overall.
