MIAMI, Florida – 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League finalists Club America remained red hot as they collected a fourth straight win in Liga MX action over the weekend with a 1-0 victory over 2020 SCCL champions Tigres.

It was Las Aguilas’ fourth clean sheet in the last six games, with just two goals allowed over that span. GK Guillermo Ochoa was once again at his finest, with a number of stretch saves to keep Tigres off the scoresheet.

The Club America attack would then provide the difference in the 53’, with Miguel Layun sending in a cross from the right wing that was volleyed home by Henry Martin for the winning score.

Club America’s opponent in Thursday’s SCCL Final, Monterrey, was looking to snap a three-match winless skid against Necaxa, but instead found itself a defensive struggle.

It looked like things were going to end 0-0 after a slew of chances for both sides went unconverted, but Rodrigo Aguirre’s last-second header in the 90+10’ instead gave Necaxa the 1-0 triumph.

After the results of the weekend, Club America now have a commanding lead atop the Liga MX table with 34 points, eight points ahead of second-place Atlas, who were 6-2 winners at Atletico San Luis. Monterrey are seventh with 20 points.

Forge FC’s pursuit of the top of the table in the Canadian Premier League continued over the weekend with a 0-0 draw against Wanderers.

After falling 3-1 to Costa Rican side Santos de Guapiles in the first leg of their 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf League quarterfinal, Forge recorded a solid result away from home with a clean sheet.

Forge are in third place in the CPL table with 41 points, three points behind first place Cavalry.

The New England Revolution, who have already qualified for the 2022 SCCL, were crowned winners of the 2021 Major League Soccer Supporters Shield after their 2-2 draw over the weekend with Orlando City SC.

A pair of goals in the final 10 minutes helped the Revolution rally from a 2-0 deficit to collect the point and the title-winning result. It is the franchise’s first ever Supporters Shield trophy.

Also in MLS over the weekend was a big 2-1 victory for Sporting Kansas City at the Seattle Sounders, pulling Sporting Kansas City to within three points of Seattle for first place in the Western Conference. Johnny Russell’s goal in the 79’ earned the visitors the three points.

Also in the mix to be regular season Western Conference champions are the Colorado Rapids, who are third with 55 points following their impressive 2-0 win over fourth place Portland Timbers.

Dominique Badji and Diego Rubio scored the goals to keep the Rapids in the hunt for a playoff top seed.
