MEXICO CITY – Club America head coach Miguel Herrera was left frustrated by his team’s miscues in Wednesday’s 1-0 loss to visiting Tigres in their Liga MX Apertura semifinal opener.
Anselmo Vendrechovski (Juninho) netted the game-winner from the penalty spot in the 49th minute, after Bruno Valdez was whistled for a handball in the area.
However, it was the Aguilas’ passing game that left Herrera somewhat concerned.
“We had errors in passes that could have meant something better,” he said. “Obviously we did not have a good match, but it shouldn’t have been lost. If they don’t score the penalty, they had just two clear chances and those were only because we were tipped in trying to find the equalizing goal.”
Club America now has not scored a goal in three consecutive matches and has not tallied more than one in seven straight contests.
Herrera still believes that the firepower will return in time for the second leg at the Estadio Universitario.
“We have confidence because there we have to go out to win,” finished the 49-year-old.
