COUVA, Trinidad & Tobago – DirecTV W Connection (Trinidad & Tobago) and Inter Moengotapoe (Suriname) remained perfect in first-round play at the 2016 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship, posting victories on Friday in a Group 1 doubleheader at Ato Boldon Stadium.

In the opener, Inter Moengotapoe edged Atlantico FC (Dominican Republic), 1-0, on a first-half goal by Gregory Pokie (31’).

W Connection took its goal haul after two game in the competition to nine, rallying for a 5-1 win over CS Moulien (Guadeloupe). After Richardson Petit (4’) gave the 2014-15 Guadeloupean champion an early lead, before Jamal Charles (7’) and Jomal Williams (53’) struck to put the host ahead 2-1 with their third goals. Dimitrie Apai (67’), Alvin Jones (70’) and Malik St. Prix (90’+2) added one apiece to complete the scoreline.

On Sunday, W Connection and Inter Moengotapoe will meet in the second game of another doubleheader to decide the group winner, which advances to the semifinals. The already eliminated duo of CS Moulien and Atlantico FC will kick off the day’s schedule.

The CFU champion, runner-up and winner of the third-place match will earn places in the 2016-17 SCCL.
