Comunicaciones earned its first victory of the Guatemalan Apertura, while Chorrillo FC grabbed a win against fellow CONCACAF Champions League (CCL) qualifier Tauro FC in Panama.

GUATEMALA

Comunicaciones (4 points) followed a 2-2 draw in last week’s Apertura opener against Halcones (1 points) with a 2-0 victory over Coatepeque (0 points) on Saturday.  Carlos Gallardo (27’) and Panama international Rolando Blackburn (37’) scored within ten minutes of each other in the first half.  The Cremas will face host Suchitepequez (3 points) next Sunday, before opening their 2014/15 CCL campaign at home against Puerto Rico Bayamon FC on August 7.

Municipal (3 points) had the weekend off from domestic play thanks to its two-game tour of the United States, where it faced a pair of CCL sides.  The Rojos fell to Honduras’ Olimpia 2-1 on July 25 in Houston and drew 1-1 with FAS of El Salvador two days later in New Orleans.  Carlos Ruiz scored one goal in each game.  Municipal begins its CCL schedule on August 21 against Real España in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

PANAMA

In a duel between both of Panama’s 2014-15 CCL participants, Chorrillo FC (4 points) claimed a 1-0 victory over host Tauro FC (1 point) on Friday.  The Fiebre Amarilla were lifted by an Alfredo Stephens (35’) goal in the first half and have now opened the Apertura with two consecutive shutouts.

Tauro will look for its first win next Saturday at Plaza Amador (1 point), before hosting Jamaica’s Waterhouse in the CCL on August 7.  Chorrillo’s 2014/15 CCL debut will takes place on August 19, when it welcomes defending champion Cruz Azul to the Estadio Maracana.

NICARAGUA

Samuel Wilson (77’, 84’) scored two goals and Real Esteli opened the 2014 Apertura with a 3-1 victory over visiting Deportivo Ocotal.  Rudel Calero (63’) opened the host’s goal account in the second half.  El Tren del Norte will face Jalapa in domestic play next Sunday, before hosting Costa Rica’s Saprissa in the CCL curtain raiser for each on August 6.
