PUEBLA, Mexico – The 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup continued with Cruz Azul earning a 5-nil win over Vancouver FC in the Second Leg of their Round One series, with the former advancing 8-nil on aggregate, on Thursday at Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla, Mexico.
Cruz Azul opened the scoring in the 37’, when Jeremy Márquez slipped a sensational through ball to Luka Romero for the finish.
Romero scored his second of the match in the 45’+1’, as a deflected cross fell perfectly to him for the header before the break.
The defending Champions Cup winners extended their lead in the 62’, as Romero completed his hat-trick with a left-footed blast.
La Máquina Cementera found the back of the net again in the 68’, when Jorge Rodarte rose up to head home a pinpoint cross from Andrés Montaño.
The Mexican side extended its lead in the 74’, when Nicolás Ibañez swarmed a defender trying to clear the ball, and tapped in the fifth goal of the match.
Cruz Azul is now unbeaten in its last ten matches against Canadian opposition in Champions Cup, with eight wins and two losses. The club will continue its title defense against fellow Liga MX side CF Monterrey in the Round of 16 in March.
