CARTAGO, Costa Rica – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with CS Cartaginés earning an 8-1 victory against Verdes FC in Group C on Wednesday at Estadio José Rafael "Fello" Meza in Cartago, Costa Rica.

Cartaginés got off to a quick start with three goals in the first 20 minutes of the match. Johan Venegas opened the scoring in the 4’, before Diego Mesén netted back-to-back goals on corner kick opportunities in the 11’ and 16’.

Joel Burgos shortened the deficit for Verdes FC in the 27’.

Los Brumosos further extended its lead with Venegas striking again in the 28’, before assisting Marco Ureña for his first of the night in the 29’.

Ureña sealed his hat trick before the break with goals in the 41’ and 45’+1’.

Venegas closed out the win for Cartaginés in the 63’, converting from the penalty spot to collect his hat trick. It was an overall stellar performance from Venegas, who concluded the night with three goals and two assists. 

Cartaginés will conclude its Group Stage participation in search of a top two finish in Group C when it hosts CA Independiente next Tuesday.

Verdes FC exits the 2025 edition as the fifth-place team in the group with a 0-0-4 record.
